In a world where security is increasingly central, Metal Quartz offers a range of bullet-resistant counters certified according to the strictest European standards. These solutions are designed for sensitive environments where transactions, communication, or physical exchanges occur under heightened threat, such as banking institutions, courthouses, police zones, government services, embassies, military sites, and critical infrastructures.
The bullet-resistant counters combine functional efficiency, high resistance to ballistic attacks, and excellent finishing. They are custom-designed and can be integrated into both new and existing buildings. Moreover, they can be effortlessly combined with other Metal Quartz solutions, such as burglar-resistant counters and secured counters.
Certified bullet-resistant protection for counters according to EN 1522-1523
The EN 1522 and EN 1523 standards apply to complete joinery such as doors, windows, shutters, counters, and fixed walls. These standards define not only the materials used but also how connections, profiles, anchors, and joints between parts react to bullets.
A crucial principle within these standards for bullet-resistant counters is the zero-perforation requirement: every bullet impact must prevent penetration of the projectile core or fragments to the protected side. Even a microcrack or temporarily opened passage is considered a failure.
To objectively measure this, simulated ballistic attacks are conducted using specific ammunition (such as 9mm, .357 Magnum, 7.62 NATO, etc.) at distances between 5 and 10 meters from the bullet-resistant counters. The test is repeated on weak points such as locks, hinges, glazing edges, connection profiles, and corners.
Different protection levels are defined depending on the type and caliber of weapons used. The bullet-resistant counters from Metal Quartz are available in several security grades:
- FB4: protection against 9 mm para (handgun)
- FB5: protection against 5.56×45 mm (military rifle)
- FB6: protection against 7.62×51 mm (fully automatic rifle)
- FB7: protection against armor-piercing bullets of 7.62×51 mm (AP)
Additionally, Metal Quartz also considers the so-called open class AK47, which is not formally part of the standard but is widely used in practice during armed attacks. This class has a penetration capability between FB4 and FB5.
The downloadable brochure contains a detailed overview of the different classes, test weapons, ammunition types, shooting distances, and test sequences. Metal Quartz adheres strictly to these parameters without deviations, resulting in reliable, verifiable, and internationally recognized certificates.
Full test coverage: complete unit, no mock-ups
What sets Metal Quartz apart is the choice for full and representative testing procedures. Instead of testing only panels or small components, Metal Quartz subjects complete bullet-resistant counters to test protocols. This means that not only the materials used are certified, but the entire product as it is installed in practice.
Among others, the following are tested:
- Glass elements and glass/metal transitions
- Transfer systems and parcel holders
- Profiles and structural elements
- Edge zones and weld seams
- Fastening systems and touchpoints
This way, you can be confident that the complete configuration meets the desired bullet resistance level, without weak links or untested transitions.
Modular and customizable bullet-resistant counters for every project
The bullet-resistant counters from Metal Quartz are fully modular. Depending on the function and location, various configurations can be provided:
- Package counters with transfer drawer or sliding drawer
- Glass/metal combination with partial or full glazing
- Closed metal counters with limited opening or airlock system
- Built-in models in Bunkerkit® walls or existing structures
- Free-standing counter units for use at temporary locations
The bullet-resistant counters can be equipped with:
- Bullet-resistant glass, according to the required FB level
- Steel plates with appropriate thickness and ballistic coating
- Controlled transfer modules (manual or automatic)
- Intercom systems, LED lighting, ventilation grilles, document pass-throughs
Aesthetics and Integration
Security does not mean compromising on aesthetics. The bullet-resistant counters are available in various RAL colors and can be provided with a fine-structured powder coating for a high-quality appearance. Both the interior and exterior of the counter can be adapted to the architectural style or corporate identity of the client.
Moreover, Metal Quartz uses clean finishes, invisible welds, and precisely placed elements to discreetly integrate the whole into sensitive environments. Think of government service counters, reception points in prisons, or consultation areas in hospitals.
Combination with other performances possible for bullet-resistant counters
The bullet-resistant counters can easily be expanded with additional security or comfort features:
- Burglar resistance (RC3–RC5) according to EN 1627-1630
- Fire resistance (EI30–EI60) according to EN 1634-1
- EMC protection for sensitive electronic areas
- Acoustic insulation for confidential conversations
In particular, the armored transfer hatch RC4-FB6 is often integrated. This provides dual protection: WK4 against burglary and FB6 against bullets, and features a smart electrically controlled airlock system where both hatches of the bullet-resistant counters can never be opened simultaneously. The entire construction is armored around. More about this module can be found in the secured counters brochure.
FAQ
That depends on the expected threat level for the bullet-resistant counters. For commercial applications, FB4 is often sufficient. For government, police, or military sites, we recommend FB6 or FB7.
Yes, many of our models combine bullet resistance (FB4-FB7) with burglary resistance (RC3–RC5), according to separate testing standards.
Certainly. Think of intercoms, LED lighting, ventilation, document modules, or programmable hatches.
All bullet-resistant counters from Metal Quartz are custom-made. Unusual shapes or integration into existing furniture is also possible.
Yes. The bullet-resistant counters can be integrated into broader security structures such as fire-resistant walls (EN 1634-1) or electromagnetically shielded modules (Faraday cages, according to IEEE 299-2006).
Upon simple request or via our contact page, you will receive access to the detailed technical documents for each product type.
Both are possible. The bullet-resistant counters can be equipped with armored cash trays, document transfer modules, or transfer hatches, with or without electrically controlled locking systems in airlock mode.
