The security booths of Metal Quartz are designed to provide maximum protection for security personnel, counter staff, or soldiers performing their duties in high-risk environments. They combine certified resistance against burglary and firearm violence with a practical and comfortable design. Each booth is modular and can be adapted to the specific requirements of a project, from the level of ballistic protection to the desired finish and technical equipment.
Security booths: safety as a primary function
With the increasing focus on public safety and the development of ever more powerful weapons, the security booth has become an indispensable element for critical infrastructures. It is designed to withstand firearm attacks, burglary attempts, or even hostage scenarios. In addition to physical protection, the booth is equipped to enable communication and coordination, so that guards can repel attacks, autonomously send alarm signals, or directly contact a control room.
Comfort and user-friendliness in security booths
A security booth must not only protect but also provide a comfortable workplace for the user. The security booth can be provided with a complete electrical installation with control panel, emergency lighting, sockets, and protection of power cables. It is also possible to choose air conditioning and ventilation systems that ensure a constant temperature and air quality. This guarantees that staff can work for long periods in a healthy and safe environment.
The interior finish can also be equipped with furniture and wall coverings, built-in worktops, … which enhance functionality and ergonomics. In this way, the booth becomes a fully functional workstation that offers both protection and comfort.
Standards and laboratory tests
The performance of the security booths has been tested in accredited laboratories and complies with current European standards for both burglary resistance and bullet resistance:
- Burglary resistance: EN 1627–1630, RC3 to RC6.
- Ballistic resistance: EN 1522–1523, FB3 to FB7, and the open AK47 class.
These tests were carried out, among others, at the Banc National d’Épreuve in Saint-Étienne and at the ballistics laboratory of the Royal Military Academy in Brussels.
Security booths: performance and classifications
Burglary-resistant performance (EN 1627–1630)
The EN 1627–1630 standards define six resistance classes (RC1–RC6). For the security booths of Metal Quartz, performance is guaranteed from RC3 up to RC6.
Bullet-resistant performance (EN 1522–1523)
The ballistic classifications range from FB3 to FB7. In addition, the AK47 class exists, which falls between FB4 and FB5 in terms of penetration capacity. For booths with glazing, glass conforming to EN 1063 (BR classes) is used, in line with the required ballistic protection.
During the tests, not only the glass itself is assessed but also the joints between glass, panels, and profiles. This ensures that the entire booth meets the stated classification.
Technical features of security booths
Dimensions and floor
Each booth is manufactured to measure. For installation, there are two options:
- On blocks: height adjustable from 28 to 1120 mm to compensate for level differences of up to 10%.
- On floor: with or without anchoring into the ground.
Transport and assembly
The booths can be delivered as:
- Ready-to-use: fully finished and transportable with a crane or forklift.
- To be assembled: assembled on site and fixed on blocks or directly onto the floor.
Joinery
The configuration can be adapted to the booth’s function:
- bulletproof counters with or without transfer trays;
- single or double doors, glazed or not;
- partially or fully glazed walls;
- technical cable and duct openings according to standards.
Finishes and fittings
The interior and exterior finish can be customized to the client’s wishes. Examples include:
- complete electrical installation with control panel, lighting, emergency lighting, sockets, and cable protection;
- air conditioning and ventilation to ensure a constant temperature;
- interior layout with furniture and wall coverings;
- exterior finish with RAL paint or aluminium panels/films (for example for communication).
Additional security measures
Beyond physical armoring, security booths can be equipped with:
- video surveillance and monitoring;
- access control and electronic security;
- telecommunication systems and alarms.
Examples of configurations
The product sheet illustrates several standard configurations, from compact booths with one door and window to larger units with multiple glazed sides. Each design is adapted to the location and threat analysis. Thanks to the modular construction, booths can also be expanded or modified later.
Application areas of security booths
Security booths are a crucial part of security infrastructure across various sectors:
- Airports and ports: protection of access control posts.
- Embassies and government buildings: safety of security staff in sensitive zones.
- Military installations and barracks: protection of soldiers on guard against ballistic threats.
- Industrial sites: monitoring access to strategic facilities.
- Events and public spaces: temporary deployable units to reinforce security perimeters.
The combination of mobility, burglary resistance, and ballistic resistance makes these booths highly versatile and widely applicable.
Maintenance and service life of security booths
A security booth is a passive protection product that maintains its performance as long as its structural integrity is guaranteed. To ensure this, three aspects are essential:
- Professional installation according to the instructions.
- Regular inspection of joints, glazing, and profiles.
- Document management: keeping official homologation test reports that confirm the performance of the complete unit.
This fits the philosophy of the standards, where traceability and the obligation of result (no perforation, no entry in case of burglary) are central.
Added value for security strategies
In a modern security strategy, security booths play a dual role: they delay and resist attacks, but they also act as coordination points. From inside the booth, staff can activate alarm systems, monitor video footage, and manage access to critical areas.
Because the units are tested according to the highest European standards, they can be easily integrated into existing risk analyses and security plans. The RC3–RC6 and FB3–FB7 classifications provide clear references aligned with international standards.
